Volvo Terminology

When searching for a part for your Volvo, don't be fooled by terminology that is designed to trick you.

Genuine Volvo Parts

When we use the term Genuine Volvo Parts we are speaking of a part that is sold by Volvo to us and is of the same quality or better as the original part installed when the vehicle was new. Common names are: Dealership Volvo Parts, Factory Volvo Parts, Manufacturers Volvo Parts and Original Volvo Parts. This is the same part that a Volvo dealership would sell you and includes the same 1 year, Unlimited mileage, Nationwide warranty.

Factory Volvo Parts

When we use the term Factory Volvo Parts we are speaking of a part that is sold by Volvo to us and is of the same quality or better as the original part installed when the vehicle was new. Common names are: Dealership Volvo Parts, Genuine Volvo Parts, Manufacturers Volvo Parts and Original Volvo Parts. This is the same part that a Volvo dealership would sell you and includes the same 1 year, Unlimited mileage, Nationwide warranty.

Original Volvo Parts

When we use the term Original Volvo Parts we are speaking of a part that is sold by Volvo to us and is of the same quality or better as the original part installed when the vehicle was new. Common names are: Dealership Volvo Parts, Genuine Volvo Parts, Manufacturers Volvo Parts and Factory Volvo Parts. This is the same part that a Volvo dealership would sell you and includes the same 1 year, Unlimited mileage, Nationwide warranty.

Dealer or Dealership Volvo Parts

This refers to the fact that the Volvo Parts we sell are exactly the same part you would purchase at a Volvo Dealership but at a significant discount.

OE Volvo Parts

"OE" Volvo Parts is actually an abbreviation for "original equipment" parts. This is referring to the fact that the manufacturer of the parts labeled "OE" has at one time or another produced a part for Volvo. For example; Bosch may make "1" Oxygen sensor for "1" Volvo vehicle and they are then labeled as an "OE" parts supplier for Volvo. This is misleading as they may sell thousands of replacement parts for all Volvo models to aftermarket parts stores but only one of the parts was originally designed for a Volvo. A very common example of this is spark plugs, the part number on a Genuine Volvo Spark plug made by Bosch will be different than the spark plug they sell in a parts store. That is because Bosch signs an agreement with car manufacturers that they will not sell the same part to others that they sell to Volvo and other car manufacturers. I have personally experienced an engine misfire when using aftermarket Bosch spark plugs and the misfire will go away when installing the Factory Spark plugs that were made by Bosch for Volvo.

OEM Volvo Parts

"OEM" Stand for Original Equipment Manufacturer and is the same as saying "OE" parts.

Aftermarket Volvo Parts

"Aftermarket Volvo Parts" is actually the correct terminology for "OE" or "OEM" parts as they are parts made by companies other than Volvo. They are often made inferior to the Genuine Volvo Part and usually fail at a faster pace and do not fit properly.  Although many aftermarket parts are made by manufacturers of Genuine Volvo Parts such as Bosch or TRW, Volvo demands a high quality part made to exact tolerances where the aftermarket does not demand that level of quality.

Manufactured Volvo Parts

This can be a misleading way to represent parts as Genuine Volvo parts but it actually means they are selling parts that are not genuine.

Vintage Volvo Parts

Vintage Volvo Parts normally refers to parts made for Volvo Vehicles produced earlier than 1980.

All Parts Of The Experience

The Volvo ownership experience is made up of many parts. Some are obvious. Some are not. If you think about it, you probably wouldn't want your workshop to exchange the Genuine Parts that make your Volvo a Volvo, for something else that is not 100% guaranteed to support original safety and quality.

What you'd probably want is to have your Volvo professionally serviced, with Volvo Genuine Parts, the only spare parts that are always guaranteed to carry the same uncompromising promise as the car itself. Parts that you know have been designed, tested and manufactured according to Volvo's detailed specifications, in order to interact optimally with all the other parts in the different systems of the car.

Economy, ecology and reliability

Many of our replacement parts are available as Volvo Exchange Parts. In fact, Volvo offers one of the widest ranges in the automotive industry, all carefully remanufactured and returned to their original condition, all with the same quality and warranty as new parts.

What's more, because exchange parts decrease the need for raw material (and the remanufacturing process uses less energy than producing a new part) they're good news for the environment as much as the workshop, the insurance company and the most important part of all: you.

Reliability and warranty

All Genuine Volvo Parts come with a Nationwide 12 Month, Unlimited Mileage warranty against defect and can be exchanged at your local Volvo Dealership and do not require you sending them back to us. In the event your local dealership is a long distance from your home we can handle warranty situations but shipping to and from us is the responsibility of the buyer.

Order Accuracy

When you supply the Vehicle Identification number "VIN" of your Volvo during step 2 of checkout we will guarantee that the part we send you fits your car. It's up to you to order the correct side and part but we will guarantee correct color and that the part fits your Volvo. Please remember that left is drivers side and right is passenger side. All parts listed on our website are designed for LHD "Left Hand Drive" Vehicles so we cannot guarantee accuracy of parts installed on RHD Volvo's.
