Diagnose Park Assist Camera

The instructions below are for a Volvo XC90 but may be similar to other models. How to diagnose the park assist camera inoperation

Step 1

Check of system for parking assistance camera

Introduction

The system for the parking assistance camera facilitates reversing by using a screen to display what is behind the vehicle.

This troubleshooting is to remedy problems that can arise with the parking assistance camera module (PAC) and constituent components.

First check that no diagnostic trouble codes that could affect the parking assistance camera system are stored in the central electronic module (CEM), brake control module (BCM), multimedia module (MMM) or infotainment control module (ICM).

Step 2

 If the system for the parking assistance camera does not work as it should. First make sure that the following conditions are met.

  • Ignition on.

  • Reverse gear is engaged. 

Step 3

A number of possible symptoms are listed below. Select the alternative that best describes the situation.

  1. Screen does not come up even though reverse gear is engaged.

  2. A picture other than the parking view is displayed even though reverse gear is engaged

  3. Screen is up but not image is displayed even though reverse gear is engaged.

  4. Image is frozen.

  5. Help lines drawn incorrectly.

  6. Help lines not drawn.

  7. Picture comes and goes.

  8. Picture missing. 

If option 1

Check that the installation instructions for the parking assistance camera system have been included for software installation.

Select Continue to access screen troubleshooting.

If option 2

 Check that the installation instructions for the parking assistance camera system have been included for software installation.

If option 3

Check the following:

  • Cable between camera and parking assistance camera module (PAC) for open circuit, loose connection and oxidation.

  • The video cable between the parking assistance camera module (PAC) and the screen for open circuit, loose connection and oxidation.

  • Checking the power supply to the control module

If no fault was detected, replace the camera.

If option 4

 Either the camera or the parking assistance camera module (PAC) is not working. Replace the camera. If that does not help, replace the parking assistance camera module (PAC).

If option 5

Check that the camera is set properly.

Use Activation of installation image in vehicle communication and set the camera correctly if possible.

If this does not help, replace the camera.

If option 6

 Reload the software in the control module.

If option 7

Reload the software in the control module.
