We use the word "genuine" because people who sell "non-genuine" Volvo parts use words like OE, OEM, which means original equipment manufacturer. OE or OEM parts are not the same parts you get from a Volvo dealership. OE can mean anything today and is even used for parts made in China. A "true" OEM part is a part that is made by a company that makes a part for Volvo such as Bosch, TRW, Brembo etc....

Just because a company makes a part for Volvo does not mean that every part they sell is as good as a genuine Volvo part. The perfect example is spark plugs....NGK & Bosch make spark plugs for Volvo but the spark plug they sell to non-Volvo parts stores is a different plug and often will make your Volvo have a miss or idel rough. Only genuine Volvo spark plugs have the correct heat range, gap and materials your Volvo needs to run correctly. Why? Because Volvo specifys the materials used and the level of quality. Bosch can sell plugs to other parts tsores for less because the quality and material can be less.
