Volvo Parts Blog

Volvo Blog offers news and helpful information concerning Volvo parts, accessories, repair and installation.

Genuine Volvo Parts. We sell genuine Volvo Parts and accessories. What does that mean? That means the Volvo parts and accessories we sell are the exact same part you would get at a Volvo dealership and has the same warranty which is a nationwide warranty available at any Volvo dealership.

There is a difference. Genuine Volvo Parts and Accessories are manufactured to fit right and perform to Volvo standards. When you purchased your Volvo new did you like the way the car looked and performed? Thats why you purchased a Volvo right? Then why install non-volvo parts that do not perform at Volvo levels.

Left or right? Our online Volvo Parts Catalog will list parts as left and right. The oreintation is based upon you sitting in the driver seat of your Volvo so drivers side is left, passenger side is right.

Volvo Rebates. Volvo offers rebates on popular accessories such as floor mats, cargo mats, running boards, load bars, navigation system, trailer hitch, steel cargo organizers, bike & ski racks, thermal heat/cool box, child seats and more..... Volvo Rebates vary from $10 to $200.00. Check out the latest rebate details on our home page. To request a rebate from Volvo you will need to print the form and include a copy of the dealership invoice we provide. Fill out the form and mail it to the address listed with copy of invoice. Volvo will send you a check in 2-6 weeks.

RHD (Right Hand Drive). We sell parts for RHD Volvos but only parts that are the same as LHD cars. Steering parts, floor mats, dash and simliar parts that are different due to driver oreintation are not available for RHD cars. Parts that are usually the same are engine, suspension, console, sheet metal and any part that would be the same if LHD.

Volvo Parts to Canada. We ship everyday to Canada via DHL or USPS. The benefit to shipping DHL is 1-5 day delivery but the burden is that they will collect duty fees (usually 10% to 20%). USPS is slower (3-10 days) but they normally charge a very nominal fee for dutys ($5-$10).

Volvo Keys & Remote. We sell Volvo Keys and Fobs/Remotes. We can save you 20% to 50% off Volvo dealerships on keys and fobs but 1999-Up Volvo models require a software download in order for the key or remote to work. There was a goverment mandate that required all vehicle manufacturers to make auto theft harder by requiring the key communicate to the car via computor chip before starting or unlocking.

Volvo Battery. Unfortuantely we cannot ship Volvo batteries due to Hazmat rules and regulations. I wish we could because I could sell 10 a day but due to the acid in Volvo batteries we cannot.

Volvo Parts Warranty Procedure. It is very rare that a new or remanufactured Volvo part is defective (less than 1%). In the event you recieve a defective Volvo part or accessory, you can file a claim with Volvo to get a replacement part for free. Volvo will replace the part for free but they will not refund the part. It's important to know that Volvo will not pay for the labor required to replace the part or any fees related to the failure such as towing, shipping or rental cars. The only time Volvo will pay labor is if you had the work done at a Volvo dealership. To file a claim with us or your local Volvo dealership you will have to return the part and provide a copy of the dealership invoice we provide with every order. Should you need a copy of the invoice contact us and we can email or fax it to you. Volvo takes up to 2 months to refund us the money because we have to file the claim, Volvo has to request the part for return for inspection and upon inspection they will refund us provided the part is truly defective and the defect was due to Volvo manufacturing.

Volvo Oil Filters, there is a difference. All automotive oil filters do essentially the same thing. They take dirt, grit and other contaminents out of the engine oil before it has a chance to circulate and harm your engine. What use to be a simple device is now a component that has to combine economy and environmental friendliness with high functionality and efficiency. Volvo genuine oil filters are designed and engineered specifically for Volvo vehicles and they deliver optimal filtration in a Volvo engine.

Volvo Spark Plugs. Volvo spark plugs are made by popular manufacturers such as Bosch and NGK for Volvo. What you might not know is that when they make the spark plugs they have to make them to exact specifications including heat range, gap and material. NGK & Bosch cannot sell the exact spark plugs to aftermarket parts distributors due to patent laws so they change the heat range, gap or material in order to sell to the aftermarket. When they do this it changes the spark plug enough that it makes the engine idler rough or miss fire. To keep your Volvo running smooth purchase genuine Volvo spark plugs from us. The small amount of money you might save is not worth the hassle. Volvo spark plugs are sold as a set, not individually.

Volvo Floor Mats. Volvo floor mats are customer tailored to fit your Volvo perfectly. Who knows your Volvo best? Volvo does, and that is why they make their floor mats to exact specifications and color match them based upon your factory color code. Volvo offers carpet & rubber mats for your Volvo, both color matched and custom tailored for your Volvo.

Volvo Cargo Trays. Volvo cargo trays are perfect for protecting the cargo area of your Volvo from dirt, grease and spills. Volvo's cargo trays are custom made to fit your cargo area and are color matched to your interior. Some cargo trays can fold to accommodate seat position. Volvo cargo trays have a lip around the edge to contain spills which is approximately 2 inches. Volvo cargo trays also have a textured surface to create friction and help stop cargo from sliding around. Volvo cargo trays are great for carrying all types of cargo and for transporting pets.
Volvo Cargo Barriers. Volvo cargo barriers or safety nets are great for protecting passengers from flying cargo in the event of an accident. Volvo cargo barriers are also great for traveling with pets or for securing valuable cargo. Volvo cargo barriers are made of steel but nylon nets are available as well. Volvo cargo barriers and nets are easy to install and include hardware and instructions.

Volvo Oil Trap, PCV, Crankcase Ventilation
Volvo 5-cyl engines do not have a PCV valve. Volvo's have a filter that traps the oil and exhaust gases from your engine. The oil trap should be replaced every 90K miles to prevent a condition called blow-back. Blow back happens when the exhaust gases cannot escape the engine due to a clogged Oil Trap. Your Volvo engine has to breathe, air comes in via intake and exhaust pipes and must exit via a government regulated crankcase ventilation system which traps the engine gases and filters them so that your car does not pollute the environment.

What happens when the oil trap gets clogged?

The engine cannot breathe via the crankcase ventilation system so it looks for other places to breathe which usually means it begins to push out seals and your engine begins to leak oil. This condition can cause engine leaks, bad performance, increased gas mileage and even engine failure. Your Volvo may leak, smoke, run bad, and consume gasoline & oil faster than normal. The longer your Volvo goes with a clogged oil trap the higher the repair bill. Common seals that will start to leak are cam, crank and rear main seals. Often, you will see oil come out of the oil filler cap and around the valve cover.

Why do I need hoses and gaskets? Because the hoses get dry rot and when you go to install the oil trap all of the hoses crumble in your hands. Also, the hoses themselves can become clogged so a new oil trap does not fix the problem because the hoses are clogged.

The intake gasket is needed so that you can access the oil trap area by removing the plenum or intake manifold.

Other areas of concern……

If your car has a turbo, the oil lines that feed oil to keep the turbo cool and can get clogged up because the engine is trying to find places to deposit the gases, oil and gunk that it would normally send to the oil trap. When replacing the oil trap on turbo engines it is a good idea to remove turbo oil lines and blow air thru them to be sure they are free of debris. Also replace the seals that seal the pipes.
